This is a rough mix of a song in process I wanted to share.  I was trying to go for a hard rock sound Montrose had on "Rock Candy" if anyone remembers that.

  1. I like where you are going with this. Personally, I’d thicken the track up, along with the vocals, which would give those upper range vocals a bit better of a hit in them. A good start to this and am looking forward to hearing more.

  2. I assume yer looking to improve this track. The vocal is out of tune alot in ways that don’t improve the track, the pipes are stretched way too tight, but I like the fact that the upper range is being used. Make this guy sing this about a hundred times in the park or something before re-recording. He can do the tune I think, he just needs to burn it in… I hope that helps.
I would suggest using subtractive eq. Try and removing the “screech” and “nasal” qualities if the reps I suggested don’t work. IMHO the vocalist is pushing too hard, doesn’t have enough air and lacks experience with this genre.
Frankly, I could hear a reverb on the drums that does not belong to the room where the vocal was derived. The two things do not sound like they belong together, might want to reconsider that reverb plan.
Best of luck, I will look for version two…
