The Sea

This mess is of my making. I should get points for trying. I liked tht drum thing-a-ma-jig. No effects. No real mastering. Just laying in tracks while hoping for the best. If I knew what I was doing, I’d be dangerous!

Keep That Fire Buring

I can feel a storm rising

Feel the wind driving through

This long and empty road I’m riding

Is the only way to get home to you.

Keep that fire burning, I’m on my way.

This big, old empty horizon won’t keep me away.

I can hear the thunder rolling

See the lightning light up the sky

The earth well it can keep on shaking

Nothing’s gonna stop me tonight

Keep that fire burning, I’m on my way

This storm can keep on raging, it won’t keep me away.

I’m gonna find a way to make it home

I’m gonna find a way to ride this storm

I’m gonna find a way no matter how long, how long it takes.

I can feel the flames calling

Calling me to come home

I’m just gonna keep on driving

Driving through the storm

Keep that fire burning, I’m on my way.

This big, old dirty horizon won’t keep me away.

I’m gonna find a way to make it home

I’m gonna find a way to ride this storm

I’m gonna find a way no matter how long, how long it takes.

Pontefract Castle

Talking with Richard the other night he reminded me of a song we did with Rebise from MJ. I didn’t realise we had finished it but this version from 2009 suggests we did. I don’t know why it never got posted to MJ. Perhaps we weren’t happy with it. I wasn’t too keen on my vocals or the guitar break and maybe I was going to add some more instruments. Who knows? Anyway, here it is in all its failings.

Dick: Lyrics, music, vocals

Richard: Lyrics, music

Rebsie: Lyrics, vocals

Pontefract Castle was a feared castle in the North of England. It saw much death and destruction and after the Civil War the people willingly pulled it down on the orders of Cromwell.

Pomfret, Pomfret! O thou bloody prison,
Fatal and ominous to noble peers!
Within the guilty closure of thy walls
Richard the second here was hack’d to death;
And, for more slander to thy dismal seat,
We give thee up our guiltless blood to drink.

Oh the wind blows cold

Cross the fields and through the south gate

Pontefract Castle stands in ruins above the town

These wretched stones caused the people fear and heartache

but the people built the castle

and the people pulled it down

Another fight, but it’s always someone else’s

Life’s hard enough without this constant fear

We’ll pay the price but we all know where the wealth is

It’s sitting in the castle and

we won’t see it out here

Catch the murmur through the sedges

Catch the clamour in the stones

Bring the fires to the edges

The time to act is now

Beat the rhythm of rebellion

Blow the horns around the stones

Raise the sleepers from the hollow hills…

Oh the wind blows cold

The people built the castle

But the people pulled it down

You Wont Yield (2)

I think I did this with Omar Nasr a number of years ago. Added another vocal line for harmony….

No Going Back

Alternate version of this song idea. Song, guitars, bass and mix by me.

Winding Mountain Road

It was a shock to learn from Mary Grathy on Facebook, this morning, that our dear friend Patrick Poulou has passed! I’m so sad. We collaborated on a couple of pieces. This one is one of them…I shall be climbing the Winding Mountain Road (which I wrote in 2012). with him! His music skills floors me each time! What a talent we have now lost! In this piece I wrote the song, sang it with my guitar on one track, sent it to him in France, and he arranged and provided all the instruments.
Farewell dear friend, LaFayette! Rest in PEACE!!! I’m so sad!
